I already knew it was combination of "OPINION" and paid membership but thanks for confirming. How else could a company that has been working in violation of state and county regulations for the past 2 years be considered an a+ business?

I've asked the same question about 2 other companies.I hate to think what the reason would be.It minimalizes those of us who truely deserve an A+ rating.

Lisa Marie & League,

The rating a Better Business Bureau assigns a company is determined by a scoring algorithm that includes such elements as its type of business, length of time in business, compliance with competency licensing requirements, complaint volume, complaint history, seriousness of complaints, complaint response behavior, and our experience with the industry that the business is in (some are more problematic than others).

A TrustLink review is about an individual’s personal experience with a company, whereas a BBB rating is based on a complex formula that uses a wide variety of factors in its calculation. The BBB rating is offered along with the consumer reviews to offer a dual perspective to be considered by the prospective consumer and aid in making a well informed decision.

If Greendot was faltering in any of those areas that are taken into consideration by the BBB Rating algorithm, then it wouldn't have the rating it does.

Complaint generation risk and companies' resolution behaviors have been tracked and scored by BBBs across the nation for the past one hundred years. Our perspective and methods still stand the test of time and are an important and valid tool and benchmark for both consumers and businesses for evaluating marketplace interactions.

For the BBB expert: I understand now how the rating works. What if the company has 2 or more profiles that pull up when you type in "greendot"? I notice there are several for greendot. It seems to me that all the complaints for greendot are routed to the one greendot with a "D" rating. It is infact the same greendot as all the rest BTW. They need to be combined to make it fair. Im not sure why they're seperate. Also, why are the consumer complaint details not available for all to see? Through trustlink we can view comments about the company but not through the bbb even though there is a section titled "view consumer complaints" none are available. Why??? Thank You....

bbb expert the bbb has been established since 1910? where do I see prove of this.I've also noticed that there was been a few people who questioned the bbb rating system so telling everyone this is how it's been done for a hundred years isn't a valid response.

League,

Obviously the methodology for rating businesses has changed over the years. Presently, we use an algorithm that weighs different elements of a company record. The weightings are based on the BBB’s experience and the ultimate rating assigned to a company represents our OPINION of the reliability of a business. Ratings are more of an art than a science; they’re not always perfect, but we strive to be as accurate as possible.

League,

If you can point us in the direction of any documented State or County violations you're aware of for this or any other company, I can assure you that they will be seriously considered by the BBB.

In the meantime, if you have a valid complaint against the business, you can file it directly from their BBB Report (click "View BBB Report" above).

I think we should band together and file a complaint against the BBB. Here is my story with Green DOT. I live in an apartment complex that has about 350 people. So, to that end we all share the same address! Ok, so, this place, all utilities are included as is the phone. Each apartment has it's own phone with an extension i.e. 555-123-4567 ext 555. Everyone has the main part of the phone number. So, Green dot closes my account stating to me that I have shared my personal information because of my phone number! I called greendot and spoke with several lower employees and, several supervisors and one company rep (Cara Almon) They all stated why my account was closed and that was due to my phone number and that there were 10 people who had the card at my address and phone number. I asked, so your saying that only 10 people out of 350 people can have a card at this apartment complex? Screw the rest of the 340 people including me? So, I said ok that is in the very legal definition, discrimination. I filed a complaint with the BBB and greendot responds back that will give me my card back plus $25. They owe me $75. Green dots final response? We can do what the hell we want! We can close your account with out reason! So, green dot stole money from me, they didn't make it right via the BBB and they still have an A+ rating? Bull!

In general, all these algorithms are almost unrealistic to predict. But very important in any business is above all communication. Here I had a stupid situation recently, when I just did not know how to go as a Google premium to communicate with a business partner at a distance. He told me that it was necessary, and it turned out that it was not. I'm glad I found information about it here and is there Google Premium https://howly.com/chats/my-partner-goes-to-turkey-tomorrow-on-a-business-trip-for-2-months/ is now fully explored by me. Good luck, I hope it was helpful.
