I had purchased this Gap insurance in God faith because the dealer says "oh its great to have especially if your upside down when buying a new car. It covers everything if the car should get totalled." Well to my surprise my 2005 dodge was stolen and totalled. After a great experience with my local Insurance company I then moved on to the gap ins. Well it took about 5-8 wks for Chrysler Financial and American Heritage to be on the same page. I got continual up to date emails from American Heritage with what I thought to b up to date info but neither of the two companies new what info they sent to who. Which in turn took forever to settle this. I was getting very frustrated and overwhelmed. So the day finally came and a what a shock it was that American Heritage was only paying me $795.00 after it cost me $599.00 to purchase the gap ins in the first place. It left $2060.00 being owed to Chrysler Financial(mind u Chrysler Financial refused to make any kind of payment arrangements for the balance but indicated to me that it would b a charge off and on my credit negatively for 7yrs.because there was no collateral. Well no kidding I have no car to drive because of it).I am very very disappointed in this company and will NEVER recommend them or use them again. They chose to take a certain figure and work with that and not what my actual pay-off amount was. Now I am left with no vehicle, court dates and 2 delinquent kids that r walking away with slaps on the hand. I am just appalled that gap insurance leaves people hanging with such a misunderstanding. To me Gap insurance is a scam. But to others with a clear understanding at the time of purchase maybe they will disagree with me. I was the victim in all of this and have been treated like I was guilty. Very unhappy, stressed and really really going to shop for my options differently next time.
