Review 4/13/2010
We bought an old house in Mt. Washington in 1999. The house had an ancient forced air furnace that serviced the upstairs and downstairs of the original part of the house. There was also a cheap forced air furnace that was added into an addition to the house that was completed in 1980. That unit serviced the upstairs and downstairs to the newer portion. On the advice of a friend, I contacted Kahn Air and they serviced these units for a while without trying to sell us a thing. Finally, we decided to replace them and install true central air and heat for the whole house. We wanted two zones - one upstairs and one downstairs, that would be much more efficient in terms of use. I met with Jim Berry of Kahn Air, a great pro who is about as knowledgeable and customer service-oriented as they come. He became a real partner in the process. Over the course of a few consulting visits, Jim and I decided on a three stage plan. We first replaced the cheap furnace with a 3 ton unit and redirected all the ducts to service the entire downstairs, getting rid of old duct work in the process and using the new California flexi-duct in its place. Next we installed a 5 ton package unit (AC & Heat) on the roof, that required a crane to put it in place (no easy feat when you live in a canyon on the side of a hill). This unit serves the entire upstairs zone of the house. All old ductwork was removed and new flexi duct incorporated upstairs as well in an attic space, along with two metal vents that were installed on the roof to service the later addition to the house. A new subpanel also had to be installed to handle the increased electrical load. In the third stage, we returned to the downstairs zone and installed the coil and condenser to add in AC. The house now had central air and heat throughout in two efficient zones. The whole process took place over two years and the end product was exceptional in execution. The system is non-intrusive into our old home and works beautifully. Kahn Air is an established company with a well-deserved reputation for solid work. They have been around a long time and clearly know what they are doing. We have maintenance contracts with them as well on the new equipment. Twice a year they make contact and then come out and service our units. They never try to hard sell us anything we don't nee. Every worker who has come here has been respectful and competent. What more can you ask for. When problems arise, they work with you and address your concerns. Especially if you're looking to upgrade, contact Jim Berry. Based on this customer's experience, I recommend Kahn Air without reservation.
