I wanted to advise all potential buyers of Roswell Honda and their associated auto group, that prior to purchasing any vehicle with them to be very aware of their business practices. We purchased a new car with them almost 2 years ago. We were quoted a certain price per month of what our car payments would be, and when we received our first car bill...it was almost $30 more a month than what we signed off on/told it would be. What occurred was that they had snuck in their after market extended warranty, First Automotive and hadn't informed us of it or even asked us if we wanted or needed it. Which we didn't, since we would be trading the car in within 2 years for a bigger vehicle. Well to cancel this very expensive warranty was a huge hassle, and it quickly depreciates and also consists of a $50 cancellation fee. Plus the cost of a notary. A lot of hassle for a warranty that isn't worth it. In fact, Honda Care is the warranty to purchase if any of you are interested in an after market warranty.
Now, we went back to this dealer about 3 weeks ago to purchase another vehicle. We got approved through Honda financing. I had all of the paper work from them to finalize and sign to take delivery of our new vehicle. But noticed they again had slipped in this after market warranty. Again, we didn't want or need it...plus the cost and deductable are not worth it to us, our insurance company is the same on its offerings of this type of warranty and cheaper/interest free with a cheaper deductable. So before signing off completely, I asked the dealer to remove the warranty off of the contract - since we never agreed to its purchase nor did we want/need it. They first refused arguing that that is how they make their monies of people. (they also stated to us that they vary the price - depending on the person - per their finance guy). Then we stated to them that us declining the warranty shouldn't affect anything, since we were already financed/approved for our purchase. After awhile, they reluctantly agreed. But ONLY after they attempted to get more monies from us, would they remove the warranty. WE had a promisory note from THEM that stated we needed a certain amount down. Which we had in full. PLUS the sell back of our previous vehicles after market warranty. Which we also had. Well, they no longer wanted to honor their contract, agreements, or promisory notes. They offered no reasonable explanation as to why - other than they weren't going to make their monies from that warranty on the NEW vehicle we were purchasing, so they now had to make it up by asking for more money down. We stated no, that is not at all what was agreed on - verbally or contractually. Nor was it ever on their promisory note.
WE held on to our agreements, they backed out time and again. With one sad excuse after another. Too many to list! The owner himself, prided himself in making claims to us that they can make a whole lot more money off of out of towners anyway on the sell of that particular vehicle we were approved to purchase so essentially we, meaning they no longer wanted to honor the contract/promissory note. MANY lies and misrepresentations were spoken by many employed there. In my many years of purchasing new vehicles, I have never encountered such shady practicings by a dealer. We left dumbfounded and saddened by this whole deal. We did everything we were suppposed, yet they lied and backed out, time and again from THEIR agreements, promisory note, and contracts. Unfortunately, we left sans the new vehicle.
To anyone out there seeking to purchase a vehicle there, please READ and understand EVERY little thing they say/write/promise. And read everything that is on your final contract very carefully. The main owner himself and I spoke at length and during our conversation, I was continually incredulous at the many poor excuses he stated. He was not thrilled that I had knowledge I did on vehicle purchases and he did little to hide his disdain. Very concerning to me, is how often he "prided" himself on making lots of $$$ on certain people, especially unknowing out of towners. That First Automotive warranty is NOT worth anything. PLEASE buy the Honda Care warranty if you desire one. They have it, but do not offer it because they do not stand to make lots of monies off of it like the F.A. one.
I also want to state in regards to this Roswell, NM Honda dealer- we have since found out, after speaking with a few other Honda dealers, that most of our recent horrible experience with them involved MANY deceptions, lies, and attempted fraud on the part of the Roswell Honda dealer. We are very appalled that this business is allowed to run in this manner. Our first experience when we purchased our new car with them was OK, except for them selling us a junk and expensive warranty we didn't need or want. And the fact that cancellation of that warranty is costly. I have purchased new and a few used vehicles for almost 20 years - in cities big and small, and never have I encountered the things and deceit I encountered at Roswell Honda.
Bottom line - PLEASE be VERY aware and cautious of everything that is said or promised to you. Read ALL of your paperwork carefully. Do not take anyone at their word. HONESTY and fulfillment of promissory notes and contracts would have been wonderful and most appreciated. As well as, returing phone calls and voice mails left to your company. Thank you.
