Review 1/11/2011
|
I am a very private person. My phone number and address is not posted in the phone book. I am on the do not call list. I make sure that on my facebook page I do not post my D.O.B., address, or personal email address. My facebook settings are set that only friends are able to review my facebook page, even with that I am particular about what I put up on my page. A friend of mine warned us about this site. I am well aware that there are sites where you have to pay around at least $20 for personal information. This site has my previous as well as current address, my phone number and email address. The moment you go to the site and type in a name you see this for free, you don't even have to pay for this. Anyone can see this. People have particular privacy settings on facebook for a reason and this site just messes that up for people. The companies response to a review is that you can get this information anywhere. Such as real estate records etc. but those options are not as easy and convenient for people as going to this site. Other entities make it a little harder for people, this site makes it too easy. Another thing this is a site that not too many people know about, so why would I want to give my email address to a site who published my personal information without my permission, just to have my information removed from the site? In order to have your information removed you have to give them your email address, BUT when you go to the site to do that you see a message that says, ''We are currently experiencing an unusually high email volume. We are working very hard to respond to your inquiries in the order which they are received. Thank you for your patience''. I called customer service they tell me I cannot do anything through them the only option that I have is to send an email. How do I know that sending an email is not a ploy to verify my email? I don't feel comfortable doing that, a site that would stoop this low I don't trust them. I don't feel people should have to give more personal information to prevent their information from being published. You don't even have the option to speak to a person to make sure the right thing is being done you can only do it by sending your email over, you cant even talk to customer service. This scares me, what about women who are trying to run from their abusive husbands? This is serious and I don't feel a person should have to go through that to remove vital information that can be seen for free.

Spokeo aggregates publicly accessible data from a multitude of online and offline sources which includes social networks, public records, phone listings, marketing surveys and more. All data collected by Spokeo is publicly accessible and originates from the sources themselves. Spokeo understands your privacy concerns, and as such, provides a convenient way to remove your listings from public searches. In order to prevent spammers, bots and others from removing hundreds of listings at a time, all users are allowed to remove a limited number of listings each day per IP address. If you have multiple listings that you would like to be removed, you can go ahead and email each of the URL's to our Privacy Team through our contact page: www.Spokeo.com/contact. The Spokeo Privacy team will remove your listings as soon as possible. Just allow up to 24-hours for the change to be reflected on our site. I can also assure you that your email address is not saved and/or sold to third parties.
